A Toronto police officer is in hospital following an early‑morning incident in the Bloor Street East and Parliament Street area.
EMS confirmed only that Toronto paramedics were dispatched to the intersection near Sherbourne Street at 3:50 a.m., declining to comment further and directing all inquiries to police. A paramedic at St. Michael’s Hospital told CityNews the officer is expected to survive.
CityNews spoke with a man who says he was the victim of a related criminal incident earlier in the night. The man said he was riding his e‑scooter home from work near Dundas and Shuter streets when two suspects — one also on an e‑scooter — approached him, threatened to assault him, and stole his scooter. He called police and used a tracking device on the scooter to relay its location in real time.
He noted that a friend drove him toward Bloor Street, where the device indicated the e-scooter had stopped. By the time he arrived, the confrontation between police and the suspect had already unfolded. He said he did not witness the officer’s injury.
Police have not released details about the suspects involved, the circumstances, or whether the stolen e-scooter incident is formally connected.
