Both federal leaders have responded to questions around the “dance party” fundraiser to be hosted by the WA Greens in Perth on Anzac Day.
We informed you earlier that the party has advertised “The Greens Party Party” at a West Perth bar on April 25.
“Join us for a night when the dancefloor becomes the platform for radical change,” the event description states.
“Want change? Tonight, let’s dance for it. And on May 3rd, you have to vote for it.”
Asked this morning about the event, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: “Anzac Day is a day of respect for the men and women who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice. I think it’s not a day for normal business as usual.”
Dutton labelled the party “completely inappropriate”.
“I just say to every young Australian who’s proud of their grandfather who fought in the war, proud of a cousin who’s serving in the Australian Defence Force, understand that the Greens have complete contempt for our Defence Force personnel,” he said.
Meanwhile, RSLWA state president Duncan Anderson told Radio 6PR he was “lost for words”.
Earlier we brought you the news that an 18-year-old man had allegedly been assaulted in his home in Armadale overnight.
Now police have charged a man and a woman and will allege that around 9.15pm they entered the home without permission, where a verbal altercation occurred.
“The argument escalated with the man and woman allegedly assaulting the 18-year-old
victim. The victim was conveyed to hospital for medical treatment,” a police spokesman said.
A 31-year-old man from Kelmscott is charged with Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit, One count of Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm; and two counts of Impeded Another Person’s Normal Breathing or Blood Circulation by Applying Pressure to Neck.
The 32-year-old woman also from Kelmscott is charged with Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit and one count of Common Assault.
RSLWA state president Duncan Anderson says he is “lost for words” over the WA Greens decision to host a fundraiser party on ANZAC Day.
The Greens have labelled the West Perth dance event the ‘Greens Party Party’, with funds raised from ticket sales going towards its election bid.
It flies in the face of what other political parties do on ANZAC Day, which is typically to halt campaigning.
Listen to what Anderson told Radio 6PR this morning:
Despite a slowdown in growth so far this year, WA’s peak real estate industry body is still predicting house prices are on track to grow by 10 per cent in 2025.
REIWA’s 2025 property market quarterly update found house prices were currently trending towards double-digit growth, while unit prices were trending above 10 per cent, however there were a couple of factors that could affect price growth.
President Suzanne Brown said the most significant issue facing the property market at the moment is the Trump tariffs.
“They have the potential to create a recession in the United States and impact economies around the world, particularly some of our most significant trading partners,” she said.
“On the other hand, we have been expecting several interest rate cuts this year and the tariffs and potential for an economic slowdown may bring these forward.”
Perth’s median house sale price recorded preliminary growth of 2.7 per cent in the March 2025 quarter, with the median house sale price rising from $750,000 at the end of 2024 to $770,000.
The median unit price increased 4 per cent to $520,000 over the same period, up from $500,000.
Perth’s house and unit median sale price are both at record highs.
Meanwhile Perth’s median weekly house rent price increased 3 per cent in the March 2025 quarter to $690, while the median unit price was unchanged at $650.
To overnight news now, and police are investigating an assault that occurred inside a home in Perth’s south-east suburbs.
Police and paramedics were called to a house on Clarence Road in Armadale around 9.30pm last night following reports of an altercation.
It’s alleged an 18-year-old man was assaulted by two people.
The two people left the property and were apprehended later by police.
They are assisting police with their inquiries and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
