Wednesday’s letters: Popsicle ban for kids with cancer disgusting

There aren’t enough words to express my disgust of the UCP government’s recent decision to cut funding for cookies and Popsicles for children while receiving cancer treatment. I can’t imagine how someone could even suggest that policy change, let alone approve it.

To add insult to injury of the suffering children and their worried and exhausted parents, Adriana Lagrange had the audacity to stand cold-faced in front of TV cameras to state that “she was unaware of this change and will be sure to look into it.” I call B.S. on that. I find it very hard to believe that her minions came up with this change and that she was not made aware of it before it was made public.

If you accept what she stated as being true, then I submit that LaGrange is not doing her job. Recently. Alberta Health Services terminated a CEO for what they allegedly claim for incompetence. Psst, Danielle: I think the above gives you the opportunity to pull the incompetence lever and oust another administrative official for poor performance.

To my fellow Albertans, imagine this: One trip of the Alberta premier and her entourage traveling to schmooze with MAGA Republicans, would likely fund Popsicles and cookies for sick kids for the next five years. See you at the ballot box!

Keep the Popsicles; cut Smith’s travel

There is something very disturbing and seriously wrong with this provincial government. It announced that Popsicles and cookies will no longer be provided to infants and children being treated for cancer. The effects of cancer treatment are substantial, yet the province will be denying this simple relief and pleasure for young, suffering children.

A box of 40 Popsicles costs $4, or just $0.10 each. At the same time, Danielle Smith is wasting tens of thousands of government dollars on trips to Florida with no apparent financial return. Provincial priorities are bewildering and shameful.

UCP needs to get priorities straight

It seems there is enough money to run down south many times on the taxpayer’s dime, but they can’t give some very sick children snacks when they are so sick? Not all of these kids’ parents make the money that the government officials make. Some of them are living on next to nothing, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands that the government officials make. My God!
