PAT SPILLANE revealed the birth of his second grandchild – but joked that the “bad news” was that he “lives in Cork”.
The Kerry GAA legend announced the news on the Late Late Show on Friday night, along with the baby’s name.

He said: “Myself and Rosarii have our second grandchild.
“A young boy named Paddy Conway born to our daughter Shona and her husband Liam.”
At this point, the former RTE pundit revealed the “bad news”, adding: “They live in Cork” which drew a cheer from the audience.
He pitched “two options” for how to rectify the issue, suggesting: “We could kidnap him, which is a possibility or, now that the Healy-Rae’s are holding up the government, I think we could get a Kerry passport.”
Overall, though, there was one thing that mattered more than anything else.
The eight-time All-Ireland winner said: “If he plays sport, brilliant. If he plays football, even more brilliant.”
Spillane’s appearance on The Late Late Show proved an eventful one, as he gave his views on all things gaelic football in a way only he could.
A vocal and frequent critic of the game, Spillane did not mince words when reflecting on Armagh’s win over Galway in last year’s All-Ireland final.
He said: “I don’t take anything away from Armagh and it was brilliant to see Jarlath [Burns, GAA President] hugging his son at the end of the game because that’s family but I looked at the statistics for last year’s All-Ireland football final.
“97 kick passes, 592 hand passes. 500 more handpasses than kick passes and you are saying gaelic football? This is not gaelic football at all, this is handball.”
At that juncture, he drew a Father Ted metaphor from his rolodex, adding: “Do you remember when they brought the blasphemous film to Craggy Island and Dougal and Ted had a protest?
“I felt like taking Father Ted’s placard from that day and walking across Croke Park with ‘Down With This Sort Of Thing’.”
The eight-time All-Ireland winner proceeded to give an account of his experience at Croke Park for the game, at which point he revealed his fascination with an unlikely actor.
He revealed: “The longer I was watching the game in the first-half, I was drawn to the fact that there was a seagull on one side of the field.
“I got obsessed with the seagull.
“I Googled, ‘are seagulls an intelligent bird?
“It said seagulls are much smarter than you think and in actual fact seagulls are the most intelligent of all birds.
“This bird knew damn well because there was no danger of the ball being kicked down the other end of the field.”
