So Prime Minister Mark Carney’s priority during what he calls Canada’s biggest crisis is to burn fuel to fly across the country to attend a Pride event so he can get a photo op?

He continues to repeat his BS talking points about how strong Canada is and that we will build together. I’ve got news for him: Forget about the falling-apart European Union and start dealing with our most important trade partner, the U.S., and stop blaming Donald Trump for all the Liberals’ past and present pathetic incompetence.

HARPER’S HELP? A GOOD SIGN

Re: Harper says Carney team sought his trade advice, urges looking outside U.S., online, July 28

I understand that our current prime minister asked former prime minister Stephen Harper for his help on trade talks, and it reminded me that Harper had once asked for Mark Carney’s help on financial matters.

It is a good sign, and I would say Harper should take this opportunity and be a part of the three Ts: trade, tariff and tourism negotiations. He is considered a world statesman, is intelligent with a master’s degree in economics, and is well respected.

ELBOWS UP NOW OUR CHICKEN DANCE

“Blame Canada” is a satirical song from the 1999 animated film South Park and apparently Donald Trump’s current modus operandi. It ends with the lines:

“We must blame them and cause a fuss.

Before somebody thinks of blaming us!”

“I Am Canadian” was the slogan of Molson Canadian beer and its ad campaign rant from the early 2000s. We need to send multiple copies of this to the White House.

But, instead, like the banker he is, Prime Minister Mark Carney keeps his cards close to his chest while his Canada-U.S. trade minister, Dominic LeBlanc, flutters between Ottawa and Washington doing the Chicken Dance with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.

Wings a-flapping rather than elbows up.

Instead of humbly schlepping down to Washington, invite Lutnick to Ottawa, if Carney really wants to negotiate. Trade works both ways. Otherwise, give our Canada-U.S. trade negotiations to Doug (cut the electricity) Ford!
