Human remains have been discovered at a San Diego property, prompting an ongoing investigation by police and prosecutors, authorities said.

The case began with an investigation by California Highway Patrol detectives, who suspected human remains were on the property in the Southcrest neighborhood, San Diego police said.

Multiple agencies, including the FBI, served a search warrant at the property on Tuesday and found the remains, police said. Whether the remains belong to multiple people is unknown.
